The CRU and Department of Transport (DoT) have signed an updated version of the MOU in April 2021. A previous version of the MOU was in place since June 2014 with the Irish Maritime Administration of the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.
As previously, the MoU between the CRU and the DoT includes two Operational Agreements, one with the Marine Survey Office (MSO) and also with the Irish Coast Guard (IRCG). The MoU is with regards cooperation in relation to the respective roles of these bodies. This updated version includes amendments to reflect developments operationally, and updates following on from changes arising from the enactment of the Petroleum (Exploration and Extraction) Safety Act 2015, which transcribes the Offshore Safety Directive (Directive 2013/30/EU), the IRCG publication of the National Maritime Oil / HNS Spill Contingency Plan 2020, amongst others.
