The CRU has, on 22 October 2019, published an Information Paper on its approval of the use of Capacity Revenues from the East West Interconnector (EWIC) by EirGrid DAC for the year ending 30 June 2019. This sets out the amount of capacity revenue collected from the EWIC for the 12-month period up to 30 June 2019, the use made of the revenues in question, and verifies that EIDAC’s use of revenue complies with Regulation (EC) 714/2009 and the Guidelines annexed to same.
The revenue, from use of the Interconnector, is used to pay for construction of the East West Interconnector.
The Interconnector provides valuable services to the Irish grid, including increased security of supply, voltage and frequency support, lower wholesale prices and reduced curtailment of renewable generation.
