The CRU is hosting a webinar to discuss participation in the electricity sector by active consumers and energy communities. The progression of active consumers and energy communities is part of a wider workstream to implement aspects of the EU’s Clean Energy Package (CEP) in Ireland.
Under the CEP, energy communities and active consumers are encouraged to participate actively in the electricity sector. The CRU is exploring ways to ensure that the regulatory framework is effective and flexible enough to ensure full participation of new actors in all electricity markets.
During this webinar, the CRU will provide a presentation to introduce the concepts of active consumers and energy communities and highlight the various activities which these new market actors may pursue. The presentation will also outline the CRU’s approach to address the more challenging aspects of designing the regulatory framework in this area.
The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session where the CEP Team hopes to hear from prospective communities and active consumers. The Team hopes to discuss the challenges communities and consumers have been facing while trying to develop their projects and hopefully identify any barriers that can be addressed by adapting the regulatory framework.
The webinar will be held on 28 June 2021 with two identical sessions arranged, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Registration for the event can be completed on Eventbrite though through the following two links:
