We have published a Draft Determination on Price Review 6 (PR6) through which the CRU evaluates and approves the proposed investment plans submitted by the network companies, ESB Networks and EirGrid, to upgrade the electricity grid and associated infrastructure.

PR6 will fast track Ireland’s move to cleaner energy and bring with it a range of benefits over the next five years including:

  • Unlocking additional electricity capacity through 29 major projects
  • Connecting new housing developments.
  • Enabling the connection of electric vehicles and heat pumps to homes and businesses across Ireland, in line with the Government’s Climate Action Plan.
  • An upgraded national storm resilience programme, involving €0.89bn of investment to improve storm resilience - building on the Winter 2025 Grid Resilience Plan and implementing lessons learned from Storm Éowyn.
  • 70 new or updated substations, 50,000 pole replacements, over 300km of underground cables and over 1,000 of new or upgraded overhead lines.

PR6 supports building more energy connections between Ireland and the rest of Europe, allowing the importation of electricity from Europe and encouraging competition to create smarter, more flexible, and digitally-connected energy networks, in line with EU requirements.

Responses should be submitted via the consultation platform by the close of business on 11 September 2025.
