We have published an update to the National Energy Demand Strategy (NEDS).
The overall aim of the NEDS is to enhance Ireland’s energy demand flexibility to support a more sustainable, cost-effective, and secure energy system. The strategy was developed to meet both the specific ambition set out in the Government’s Climate Action Plan 2023 (CAP23) under an assigned CRU action (EL/23/24) to “complete and publish an electricity demand side strategy and implementation plan”, and to support wider decarbonisation and security of supply objectives. Key actions and recommendations were identified and assigned to various stakeholders required to support this goal, across a broad spectrum of sectors.
The objective of each Biannual Update is to monitor and provide a progress summary for the NEDS actions, recommendations, and relevant policy developments. This publication builds on the first Biannual Update Q1 2025 that was published in February 2025 pertaining to the preceding six-month period.
