Dr. Tanya Harrington appointed as Commissioner to CRU
Dr. Tanya Harrington has been appointed as a Commissioner to the Commission for Regulation of Utilities following an open competition run by the Public Appointments Service.
Dr. Harrington is currently Chief Regulatory Affairs Officer at An Post, where she is responsible for economic regulatory risk management and compliance. She has made an important contribution to the Company on its transformation journey, providing strategic regulatory leadership to deliver the Company’s corporate strategy, and ensuring the business fully meets its statutory regulatory obligations as the State-designated Universal Service Provider.
Specifically, she led some of the most critical strategic issues facing the Company during the COVID-19 pandemic and laterally on matters of international trade arising from new EU customs regulations.
In addition to her time with An Post, Dr. Harrington has held leadership positions with Powerscourt, advising a range of Ireland’s largest companies on matters of public policy, government affairs and economic regulation across a range of regulated sectors. At the NTR Foundation she delivered on the Foundation’s mandate to address the challenges posed by climate change, resource sustainability and security of energy supply. She has also served as a Ministerial Advisor at the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources and the Department of Transport. She is a former Head of Energy at IBEC.
Dr. Tanya Harrington holds a Doctorate in Governance QUB, an MSSc in European Integration QUB, and BA in History and German, UCD.
Commenting on her appointment, Dr. Harrington stated “I am honoured to have the opportunity to serve as Commissioner at the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities. I look forwarding to working with my fellow Commissioners to lead the CRU in the achievement of Government’s ambition for a sustainable and energy secure Ireland, now and for generations to come. The creation of an optimum regulatory environment for energy, water, energy safety and customer protection is essential if this vision is to be achieved. I look forward to building on the work of previous Commissioners and working with all of the staff at the CRU to achieve this goal.”
Dr. Harrington will take up her post in September 2024.
