Grid Code Modification MPID 345 and Compliance and Derogation Framework Decision Paper

Grid Code Modification MPID 345

The CRU has today, 22 September 2026, published a decision to approve Grid Code Modification MPID 345: Fault Ride Through, Rate of Change of Frequency and Post Fault Active Power Recovery for Demand Facilities (“MPID 345”).

MPID 345 introduces new technical requirements in the Grid Code to all current and future transmission-connected Demand Facilities. These technical requirements will require Demand Facilities to remain connected to the power system during short-term disturbances. Similar fault ride through requirements already apply to Generators in the Grid Code.

The CRU has also approved, with some modifications, the Compliance and Derogation Framework proposed by EirGrid. The Compliance and Derogation Framework provides a pathway to compliance with MPID 345 for all currently connected Demand Facilities while implementation solutions are being developed.

The CRU’s decision follows two requests for representations from stakeholders in April and July 2026. Key themes raised in representations are addressed in the Decision Paper.

Alongside the decision paper, the CRU has also published a review of representations by its technical advisors, TNEI, and the finalised Compliance and Derogation Framework prepared by EirGrid. The modification will come into effect five weeks from the date of this decision.

The CRU will require quarterly reporting from EirGrid on matters relating to this decision and will continue to engage with EirGrid to monitor the effectiveness of MPID 345 and the Compliance Framework.
