What to do when you smell gas

Meters and appliances

Call Gas Network Ireland’s 24-hour emergency service on 1800 20 50 50 or immediately. If you can’t call a 1800 number, dial +353 (0) 1 920 5050.

If you are a Flogas or Calor customer, call their designated emergency number:
Flogas: 041 214 9600
Calor: 01 291 6229

If you cannot get through to the numbers above, call 999 or 112. Then, take the following safety precautions.

Don't
  • Smoke or use a naked flame
  • Don’t unplug or switch anything electrical on or off
  • Use a phone near the leak - make sure to call from outside, or use a neighbour’s phone
Do
  • Check that all gas appliances are turned off
  • Open windows and doors
  • If the smell persists, turn off the gas at the meter, the tank and the cylinder

If you smell gas on the street

Call 1800 20 50 50 or immediately - don’t assume someone else will.

If the emergency is related to Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders, call the relevant company. For a Flogas cylinder, dial 041 214 9600. For a Calor cylinder, dial 01 291 6229.

Remeber, if you cannot get through to the numbers above, call 999 or 112.
