What is the Safe Electric Scheme?

The Safe Electric Scheme regulates the work of Registered Electrical Contractor (RECs) in the Republic of Ireland to ensure that they adhere to national standards and technical rules. The scheme is sponsored by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU).

Always use a Registered Electrical Contractor (REC)

You should always use an REC and get an official Completion Certificate after your contractor has completed their work. The Safe Electric Scheme is responsible for inspecting the work of RECs and carrying out any necessary disciplinary action, so using an REC ensures you’re working with a competent electrical contractor who is registered, insured and qualified.

How can I find an REC?

You can find an REC by using the Safe Electric website.

You can also use the site to check whether a particular contractor is registered, to report illegal electrical works, or to report someone who is describing themselves as an REC without being legally registered.
