The CRU is the independent economic regulator of Uisce Éireann.

This means that we make sure that Uisce Éireann is run as efficiently as possible while providing appropriate water and wastewater services to its customers.

The CRU requires that Uisce Éireann produce a Customer Charter and Codes of Practice guaranteeing the overall standard of service they provide.

There are different Codes of Practice to cover areas such as:

  • customer communication,
  • metering,
  • billing,
  • network operations,
  • complaint handling and
  • vulnerable customers.

Uisce Éireann must publish its Customer Charter and Codes of Practice on its website.

Where Uisce Éireann fails to meet standards set out in the Customer Charter, customers may be entitled to compensation of €30 for each commitment that has not been met. This includes a late payment penalty of €15 which will apply if Uisce Éireann does not issue a customer charter payment to the customer within 30 working days.

By reading Uisce Éireann's Customer Charter and Codes of Practice, you'll learn about your consumer rights.

We have set high consumer protection standards for Uisce Éireann which are listed in the CRU's Uisce Éireann Customer Handbook .
