biomethane connections policy

This decision will make it easier and more affordable for biomethane projects of all sizes to connect to the gas network, helping to unlock new projects across the country and support the growth of renewable gas.

It also introduces a new option through a Centralised Grid Injection facility, allowing biomethane to be transported by road for injection into the network. This opens up opportunities for projects that are not located near existing infrastructure, supporting development in more parts of Ireland.

Overall, these changes will help increase the supply of renewable gas, make better use of Ireland’s gas network, and support progress towards national climate targets, including the 5.7 TWh biomethane target for 2030. In time, this will contribute to a more sustainable and secure energy system, with real benefits for households, businesses and the wider economy.
