The CRU was granted powers in 2016 to take actions against licensed electricity and gas suppliers and network companies that do not act in the way that meets the standards of performance set by the CRU.

In 2022, the CRU held a consultation in which it proposed standards of performance in the natural gas and electricity supply licences. This consultation closed on 20th May 2022, and, in total, the CRU received eight responses. The CRU has considered these responses and, on 15th December 2022, published its decision in relation to the licence conditions in the natural gas and electricity supply licences.
